When to do an ERCP test

ERCP is actually the English acronym for transendoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography, a series of procedures collectively known as ERCP. The indications include bile duct stones, obstructive jaundice drainage, pancreatic duct stones, chronic pancreatitis pancreatic duct stricture drainage, such as purulent cholangitis that requires emergency treatment; obstructive jaundice, which requires emergency treatment when jaundice is very severe. Biliary pancreatitis requires emergency treatment within 24 hours of onset, and in fact 24 hours is a golden treatment time. If more than 24 hours, within 72 hours, ERCP is recommended to manage biliary pancreatitis. After 72 hours, ERCP theoretically has an impact on the course of biliary pancreatitis and is not very effective. However, if the stone is embedded in the duodenal papilla, no matter how long it takes as long as the disease is not good it also needs ERCP intervention. With the continuous improvement of gastrointestinal endoscopy technology, there are many other indications for ERCP, such as gallbladder stone management, which is now mainly used for bile duct and pancreatic duct obstruction and stone drainage to remove stones, which is the main indication.
