Symptoms of tonsillar lymphoma

Lymphoma of the tonsils can involve only the tonsils alone, or it can be accompanied by enlargement of superficial lymph nodes and enlargement of the liver and spleen. A common symptom of tonsillar lymphoma is pain in the throat caused by enlargement of the tonsils. If the enlargement is significant, it may also affect swallowing or breathing. A small number of patients may also have systemic symptoms such as fever, emaciation, and night sweats. The treatment of tonsillar lymphoma is determined by the type of pathology of tonsillar lymphoma. If it is mucosa-associated tonsillar lymphoma, it usually falls within the scope of inert lymphoma. If the patient’s symptoms are not obvious, they can be observed. If the patient has significant symptoms, a tonsillectomy is required. If the lymphoma is caused by diffuse large B tonsillar lymphoma, systemic chemotherapy is usually given, and most chemotherapy regimens are CHOP regimens containing melphalan.
