The composition of Gui Zhi Pao Yao Zhi Mu Tang is relatively simple, which consists of Gui Zhi, Paeoniae Alba, Glycyrrhiza Glabra, Ephedra, Ginger, Atractylodes Macrocephala, Zhi Mu, Radix et Rhizoma Glycyrrhizae Praeparatae, Fenghuang.
Among them, Gui Zhi, Ephedra and Fenghuang have the efficacy of dispelling wind, dispersing cold and removing dampness; Rhizoma Atractylodis Macrocephalae and Fructus Pseudostellariae have the efficacy of warming menstruation and dispersing cold; Zhi Materia Medica and Paeonia Lactiflora have the efficacy of nourishing yin and clearing heat; and Zingiber Officinalis and Radix et Rhizoma Glycyrrhizae have the efficacy of harmonizing all the medicines.
Gui Zhi Shao Yao Zhi Mu Tang has the efficacy of warming the menstruation, dispersing cold, dispelling wind and removing dampness, and can be used to treat paralysis-induced joint pain and swelling, unfavorable movement, and unfavorable flexion and extension. For heavier pain, Chuanwu and Caowu can be added; for heavier dampness, Coix Seed and Cangzhu can be added.
