What is the cause of bilateral turbinate hypertrophy?

Bilateral enlarged turbinates are usually considered to be chronic rhinitis. Chronic rhinitis is caused by viruses, bacteria, allergens, various physicochemical factors and certain systemic diseases and can be divided into two types: chronic simple rhinitis and chronic hypertrophic rhinitis. In chronic hypertrophic rhinitis, the mucous membrane of the turbinates is swollen, hyperplastic and thickened, with a purplish-red appearance, especially the inferior turbinates are obviously hypertrophic and it is recommended to seek medical attention.
