How to distinguish between enlarged turbinates and normal turbinates?

Normal nasal turbinates are reddish in color, with three turbinates distributed on the lateral wall of each side of the nasal cavity: upper, middle and lower. Physical examination reveals that the mucosa of the nasal cavity and the turbinate mucosa are light red with a smooth surface and a gap between them and the nasal septum. In the case of turbinate hypertrophy, the mucous membrane is swollen, purplish-red, with an uneven surface, nodular or mulberry-shaped, especially in the anterior part of the inferior turbinate and the free edge. The depression is not obvious when the probe is lightly pressed, and there is a hard and solid feeling when touched.
