Can probiotics cure gout?

Probiotics have no therapeutic effect on gout. At present, clinical treatment of gout is mainly through drug therapy with the patient’s lifestyle intervention. Gout is a disease caused by purine metabolism disorder or uric acid excretion disorder. The principle of treatment is to increase uric acid excretion, reduce purine intake, control uric acid level, and prevent kidney function and joint function damage. The consumption of probiotics can not play a role in reducing uric acid levels, therefore, probiotics can not treat gout. Commonly used drugs for lowering uric acid include allopurinol, febuxostat, benzbromarone, etc. Colchicine can also be used in the early stage of treatment, which can reduce the frequency of acute gout attacks. Gout patients should also receive lifestyle interventions, ban smoking and alcohol, maintain good habits, regular diet, regular work and rest, weight control, eat more fresh vegetables, drink more water, reduce purine and fructose intake. Gout patients are advised to go to the hospital in a timely manner, follow the doctor’s instructions to standardize the treatment, do not self-medication, in order to avoid adverse consequences.
