Can ear tumors be cured?

Whether an ear tumor can be cured is related to the benignity or malignancy of the tumor and the specific stage. In patients with ear tumors, deafness can occur. Benign tumors, more commonly sebaceous cysts, osteomas and scotomas, can block the ear canal and cause conductive deafness. Surgical excision is preferred for treatment. Histologically, tumors that appear benign and do not metastasize regionally or to lymph nodes are capable of radical treatment. For malignant ear tumors, such as basal cell carcinoma and squamous cell carcinoma, which can occur in the ear canal. Persistent inflammation in chronic otitis media predisposes to the development of squamous cell carcinoma, which requires extensive excision and usually adjuvant radiation therapy after surgery. When the lesion is confined to the ear canal and has not yet invaded the middle ear, the entire ear canal should be removed, preserving the facial nerve.
