Is it possible to be cured of small cell lung cancer?

Small cell lung cancer is a special type of lung cancer with early metastasis and high recurrence rate. In 1/3 of limited stage small cell lung cancer, cure is still possible with aggressive treatment. Currently, the median survival time for limited stage small cell lung cancer is about 23 months. After the tumor has been treated with chemotherapy and radiotherapy, the overall treatment is relatively satisfactory, and the complete remission rate can reach more than 50%. With aggressive radiation therapy, as well as maintenance therapy, the treatment of limited stage small cell lung cancer can achieve more satisfactory results. Patients with extensive stage, as well as recurrence and metastasis, have a relatively short median survival time, usually 10-12 months. Even after standard regimens, the overall efficacy is poorer and the recurrence rate is relatively high and can reach more than 80%. Combining all small cell lung cancer treatments, the 5-year survival rate of small cell lung cancer is still low, less than about 5%, so the cure of small cell lung cancer remains a therapeutic challenge.
