Why should I not stop taking my medication at will?

Often friends think that after antiviral treatment liver function is normal and the virus is undetectable, so they stop the medication. However, there is no shortage of clinical cases of hepatitis recurrence and aggravation after stopping medication. This is mainly because the hepatitis B virus has a replication “template” in the body, the current antiviral drugs used can not yet act on this link, like a grass root is difficult to remove, so we have to extend the treatment time to deplete it. If the treatment time is not long enough, the “template” of virus replication still exists in the body, and after stopping the medication, the virus will resurface, resulting in a recurrence of hepatitis, and sometimes the inflammation of the recurrence will be very heavy. It is important to note that the hepatitis B virus in the blood does not rise as soon as you stop taking the medication, but only after a period of time when the virus has grown to a certain level, usually 3-6 months or longer, and abnormalities in liver function can occur later. Some of our patients have been rechecked 1-2 months after stopping the medication to see that the virus has not returned and they think everything is fine, which is actually wrong and extremely dangerous.
