Colonoscopy is the most accurate test for bowel cancer. Through colonoscopy, one can intuitively understand the location, size and shape or boundary of the tumor, and at the same time, one can also understand the degree of narrowing caused by the tumor to the lumen of intestinal tubes. Most importantly, colonoscopy can obtain tissues, and biopsy pathological examination of the obtained material can directly make clear diagnosis. Therefore, it is said that colonoscopy is the most accurate examination for intestinal cancer.
In the clinic, the day before doing colonoscopy, we have to do the preparation of intestinal cleansing, drink strong laxatives, and drink a lot of water to clean the intestines until pulling clear water.
To perform a conventional colonoscopy, the patient lies flat on his or her back and the colonoscopist inserts the colonoscope through the anus into the body to examine the entire large intestine. After the colonoscopy, it is recommended that the patient needs to move appropriately to promote bowel movements and help relieve bloating.
There are also more advanced small bowel colonoscopies and capsule colonoscopies, which are becoming more widely used.
However, for the examination of bowel cancer, other imaging tests, laboratory tests, physical examination and so on also need to be carried out. After all, these tests are complementary to bowel cancer colonoscopy.
