Can you sit down with a fractured lumbar spine?

Patients with lumbar spine fracture need to judge whether they can sit or not according to the severity of the disease and the way of surgery. Generally speaking, they need to take strict bed rest in the early stage, and they can sit up only when they have recovered to a certain extent, and the specific time needs to comply with the doctor’s instruction.
If the lumbar spine fracture to do conservative treatment needs strict bed rest, can not sit up, also can not get off the ground. Because the lumbar spine fracture is mainly a high degree of compression of the vertebral body area, if you sit down, it is easy to make the fracture site by the pressure of the upper body, which may cause swelling and pain aggravation, resulting in delayed healing, deformity healing, or even non-healing of the fracture and so on.
If the lumbar fracture is a vertebroplasty, you can usually sit up in the early postoperative period, but you need to wait for 2-3 days after the surgery, and you should not sit for too long. If the lumbar spine fracture is treated with incision and repositioning pedicle nail fixation, it will take 1~2 months after the surgery to sit up.
It is recommended that patients consult with their treating doctor according to their own situation and follow the doctor’s instructions not to sit up too soon.
