How to take Diltiazem

Diltiazem is taken orally as 1 to 2 tablets 3 to 4 times daily before meals or at bedtime. Diltiazem is a non-dihydropyridine calcium channel blocker that slows sinus node and AV node conduction and prolongs the AV node anterograde refractory period. It can also dilate the coronary arteries and lower the patient’s blood pressure, and is also used in the treatment of coronary artery disease and hypertension. It can prolong atrioventricular node conduction, slow down the heart rate, and at the same time has the effect of negative inotropy, so that the myocardial contraction force is reduced, and overdose of the drug can lead to bradycardia, low blood pressure, heart conduction block and heart failure. Therefore, heart rate, blood pressure and cardiac function should be monitored during the use of the drug. Some patients may experience adverse reactions such as dizziness, syncope, nausea, diarrhea, and hypotension during the application of this drug. It is contraindicated in patients with severe hypotension and cardiogenic shock, second- and third-degree atrioventricular block and sick sinus syndrome, three severe congestive heart failure, and severe cardiomyopathy, as well as in pregnant women. If patients need to take Diltiazem to treat their diseases, it is recommended to use it under the guidance of a doctor.
