Introduction to shingles

Herpes zoster is an acute infectious skin disease caused by the varicella zoster virus, which is neurophilic and can be latent in the neurons of the posterior root ganglion of the spinal nerve for a long time after infection. When resistance is low or when one is tired, infected, or has a cold, the virus can grow and multiply again and move along the nerve fibers to the skin, causing intense inflammation of the invaded nerves and skin. The rash is usually unilateral and distributed by nerve segments, consisting of clusters of herpes and accompanied by pain; the older the person, the more severe the neuralgia. Improper treatment of herpes zoster often results in residual neuralgia, which can be lifelong in severe cases, making many patients miserable. Acupuncture is very effective in treating herpes zoster, and combined with bloodletting therapy, it can be cured in a short time with early and aggressive treatment, and is less likely to leave residual neuralgia.
