Chenpi generally refers to the orange peel produced in Guangdong, Fujian, Sichuan, Zhejiang, Jiangxi and other places, with the orange peel of Xinhui in Guangdong being more famous.
Chenpi is the mature and dried fruit peel of tangerine in the family of Rutaceae. It is warm in nature, pungent and bitter in flavor, and belongs to the lung and spleen meridians. It has the effects of regulating qi and strengthening the spleen (regulating qi and strengthening the spleen), and drying dampness and resolving phlegm (removing phlegm from the body by drying dampness). It is often used clinically to treat vomiting, stagnation of qi in the spleen and stomach, and cough with phlegm and dampness.
When treating vomiting, it can be combined with ginger and bamboo rhizome. When treating bloating, nausea and diarrhea caused by stagnation of qi in the spleen and stomach, it can be used together with Cangzhu and Houpu. For the treatment of cough with much phlegm, it is often combined with hemixia.
Chenpi is not recommended for those who have dry cough with deficiency of qi and yin, and it is prudent to take Chenpi when vomiting blood. Chenpi has a wide range of clinical applications, the use of which should be carried out under the guidance of a physician.
