Urine microscopy with high white blood cells

Urine microscopy with high leukocytes may be related to physiologic causes such as specimen contamination, or pathologic causes, such as cystitis, pyelonephritis, interstitial nephritis, and so on.
1. Physiological reasons: it may be that the patient’s specimen is not collected correctly when collecting the specimen, resulting in specimen contamination and high leukocytes. However, it is usually not accompanied by symptoms such as urinary discomfort, and it is usually enough to review the test again.
2. Cystitis: It is usually caused by bacteria invading the urethra and traveling upward with urine, resulting in bladder infection, and high leukocytes can also occur. It is usually accompanied by frequent urination and painful urination.
3. Pyelonephritis: due to inflammation caused by pathogens invading the renal pelvis and renal parenchyma, generally there will be increased leukocytes in the urine in the acute stage, and if the condition is more serious, some patients in the early stage of the disease, there may be leukocyte tubular pattern.
4. Interstitial nephritis: it can be manifested as elevated urinary leukocytes, no urinary discomfort symptoms, urinary bacteriological examination is generally no abnormality.
Urine microscopy with high leukocytes can also be seen in other causes, it is recommended to timely to the regular hospital, clear reasons, follow the doctor’s instructions standardized treatment.
