What are streaky, dense shadows in the lungs?

Streak-like shadows in the lungs are dense shadows that appear as streaks in the lungs as observed on a CT or chest X-ray. It is often associated with lung inflammation, tuberculosis, pulmonary fibrosis, smoking and other factors.
1. Inflammation of the lungs will lead to a large number of white blood cells, fibrin and other components leaking out of the lungs into the lungs, which will show up as high-density ropy shadows on imaging.
2. There are many types of tuberculosis, which can be characterized by localized, dense, fibrous streaks. It can also be characterized by evenly distributed or unevenly distributed granular nodular shadows.
3. Pulmonary fibrosis is a localized fibrous scarring of the lungs that occurs when the alveoli are stimulated by inflammation or with age. It is characterized by the appearance of high density shadows in the lungs or streaks.
Long-term smokers may also have a dense, ropy image of the lungs on imaging.
