Dilated cardiomyopathy, can be categorized as palpitation (rapid heartbeat, often accompanied by panic), chest paralysis (chest tightness and pain), edema, asthma, syncope and so on in Chinese medicine. Common prescriptions include Baoyuan Tang, Shengwei San, Zhenwu Tang, and so on. However, the specific medication should be decided by the doctor according to the patient’s condition. 1. Baoyuan Tang. It has the effect of tonifying qi and warming yang. It is used for treating mental lethargy, poor diet, white color, and acne with deficiency of qi and topical depression caused by weakness of qi. 2. Pulse Sheng Drink. Composed of red ginseng, maitake and schizandra. It has the effect of benefiting qi, nourishing yin and generating body fluid. It is used for palpitation (rapid heartbeat, often accompanied by panic), shortness of breath, and spontaneous sweating (involuntary sweating during the day, aggravated by sweating with slight movement) caused by deficiency of both qi and yin. 3. Zhen Wu Tang. It has the effect of warming yang and benefiting water (replenishing yang qi in the body and promoting the circulation of water and liquid). It is used for treating Yang deficiency and water flooding (deficiency of Yang qi causing obstacles to the operation of water and liquid in the body). Symptoms include fear of cold limbs, dysuria (unsmooth urination), palpitation and restlessness under the heart, dizziness, twitching of body tendons and muscles, unsteadiness, heavy and painful limbs, and swelling.
