Peritoneal dialysis patients are generally not allowed to swim.
Peritoneal dialysis patients can’t swim because the catheter and the external port can’t be immersed in water for a long time, plus the pool water is not clean and sterile, which is easy to harbor bacteria, thus leading to the infection of the external port. If not treated in time, it will further lead to the spread of inflammation and even cause peritonitis.
Peritoneal dialysis patients can exercise appropriately, but should avoid exercising under high temperature. Maintain personal hygiene, protect the external orifice before bathing, and sterilize the external orifice with iodophor after bathing. Keep the indoor air unobstructed to avoid cross infection.
Peritoneal dialysis patients who have finished swimming on their own need to closely observe the color of the dialysis fluid, once the turbidity of the dialysis fluid, fever and other discomforts, go to the regular hospital in a timely manner to seek medical treatment and follow the doctor’s instructions for standardized treatment.
