Slow digestion is categorized as plumpness (stomach fullness and discomfort) in traditional Chinese medicine, which can be regulated through diet and traditional Chinese medicine. 1. Diet: Diet should be light and easy to digest, avoid fat, sweet and thick flavors, tobacco, alcohol, cold products. 2. Chinese medicine: (1) Dietary stagnation: manifested as abdominal distension, belching and swallowing of acid (swallowing the acid in the stomach that goes up to the oropharynx), diarrhea, thick and greasy moss, and smooth pulse. Treatment with Baohe Pill. (2) Liver-stomach disharmony (disharmony between the ascending liver and descending stomach): manifesting as abdominal distension, discomfort in the coarseness of the abdomen and ribs, good tai yi, pale red tongue, thin white moss, and a stringy pulse, using Yuehuo Pill and Hovenia Pill. (3) Damp-heat obstruction: manifesting as abdominal distension, indigestion, noisy (feeling like hunger, emptiness with burning in the stomach) discomfort, red tongue, yellowish greasy moss, and slippery pulse. Use Lian Pu Drink combined with Diarrhea Heart Soup. (4) Qi deficiency of the spleen and stomach: manifesting as bloating, indigestion, fatigue (mental exhaustion, physical weakness), pale tongue, white moss, weak pulse. Use Tonifying the Middle Jiao Qi Tang. (5) Phlegm-dampness obstruction: manifesting as abdominal distension without digestion, fullness in the chest and diaphragm, white and greasy coating, and smooth pulse. Use Er Chen Tang and Ping Qi San. (6) Deficiency of stomach yin: manifesting as abdominal distension and indigestion, five heartburns and heat (heat in the hearts of the hands and feet, and self-consciousness of the heart and chest), red tongue with little moss, and fine pulse (pulse becoming narrow and thin and accelerating in rate). Use Yi Stomach Tang. If there are signs of slow digestion, consult a clinician and follow medical advice.
