What does the normal vaginal discharge look like?

It is normal for vaginal discharge to be relatively thin, often in small amounts, milky white, with little odor or only a faint fishy smell. If there is white tissue in the vagina, it is usually due to local inflammation of the vagina. The most common pathogen is Candida infection, which causes white, tofu-like leucorrhea outside the vagina, or due to E. coli infection. Routine tests of the leucorrhoea can reveal the pathogenic bacteria causing the white discharge, and treatment can be given accordingly. If the vaginal discharge is yellowish or has tofu-like leucorrhea, or foamy leucorrhea, or leucorrhea that is relatively thin and smells like fish, it is abnormal and should be treated accordingly.
