The effects of mountain maitake include nourishing yin and promoting the production of body fluid, moisturizing the lungs and clearing the heart. It is useful in treating lung dryness and dry cough, cough due to deficiency of yin and consumptive cough, paralysis of the throat (redness, swelling and pain in the pharynx, or dryness, foreign body sensation, or itchy and uncomfortable pharynx, difficulty in swallowing) and sore throat.
Mountain maitong is the dried tuberous root of Hubei maitong or short scape mountain maitong of lily family, taste sweet, slightly bitter, sex slightly cold. It belongs to the heart, lung and stomach meridians. Maitong has the effect of nourishing yin and generating fluids, moisturizing the lung and clearing the heart. It is used in treating dry lung and cough, cough with deficiency of yin, paralysis of the throat and sore throat, thirst due to injury of fluid, internal heat and thirst (internal heat accompanied by excessive eating, drinking and urinating), insomnia, and constipation due to dryness of intestines.
