Correction of flat feet in children

The correction of flat feet in children is related to the type, which includes congenital, flexible, spastic and rigid flat feet, and its treatment is generally divided into manual correction and surgical treatment. 1. Congenital flat feet: (1) Manipulative correction: early manipulative correction should be made to make the forefoot plantarflexed, inwardly turned and inwardly retracted as much as possible, and then the orthopedic position should be maintained with a long leg flexion cast. The plaster should be changed every 2 weeks, and the foot can be corrected successfully in 2 months. (2) Surgical treatment: the child is already more than 6 months old at the time of consultation, manipulative treatment is not easy to be successful, and the deformity is serious for surgical treatment. 2. Flexible flatfoot: (1) Conservative treatment: For symptomatic and severe flexible flatfoot children (3~9 years old) with obvious heel valgus, forefoot abduction and significant medial protrusion of the talus head, orthopedic braces are used. (2) Surgery: Patients with severe pain are indicated for surgery. Flat feet with bony changes are often caused by other reasons, most of them need surgery, surgical methods such as heel talonavicular fusion, navicular osteotomy and so on. 3. Spastic flatfoot: (1) Manipulative correction: those with a short history of the disease can use internal rotation manipulation to increase the activity of the foot and release the spasm, and the internal rotation position can be fixed with a plaster cast under the knee for 3 weeks, and then walk with high internal orthopedic shoes. (2) Surgical treatment: if conservative treatment is not effective and pain is obvious, subtalar joint or triple joint fusion is performed. (4) Rigid flatfoot: Most of the treatment uses arch support to protect the foot; if the arch support can not solve the pain, it is necessary to do triple-joint fusion. When children have flat feet, parents should take them to the hospital in time and standardize the treatment under the guidance of doctors.
