There is both deficiency fire and solid fire in the liver, which have different symptoms and different medications, and both deficiency fire and solid fire can occur at the same time. Liver Deficiency Fire is an exuberant fire caused by a deficiency of liver yin. It often manifests as dry eyes, photophobia and tearing, baking heat in the face, heat in the hands and feet, dizziness and tinnitus, and in women it manifests as delayed menstruation, low menstrual flow and amenorrhea, and is sometimes accompanied by headache, dizziness, tinnitus, insomnia, and dreamy symptoms. It is mostly treated by herbs that nourish yin and clear heat (nourishing yin essence and removing heat), such as Radix Rehmanniae Praeparata, Rhizoma Zizoma Polygonati, Cyperus Rotundus and other herbs. Liver solid fire is a condition caused by an exuberant liver fire. It manifests in symptoms such as bitter mouth, constipation, red eyes, abdominal pain, dizziness, headache, bleeding gums, nosebleed, blood in stool, dry stools, yellow urine and other symptomatic manifestations. It is mostly treated by medicines that clear the liver and diarrhea (remove liver fire), such as gentian, scutellaria, gardenia, and so on. Liver deficiency fire and liver actual fire sometimes appear together, and need to be treated with Chinese herbs that have the effects of nourishing Yin, clearing heat and purging liver fire. If medication is needed, it is recommended to go to the hospital according to one’s own condition and be treated under the guidance of a doctor.
