Vascular lesions are pathologic changes in the blood vessels themselves due to various diseases or causes, including atherosclerosis, thrombosis, stenosis of the vessel wall, occlusion of the vessels, inflammation of the intima or injury to the vessels, angiomas, vascular malformations, and arteriovenous fistulas, all of which fall under the category of vascular lesions. Vasculopathy is characterized by ischemia of the supply tissues caused by the blood vessels themselves, or by accidents resulting in necrosis of limbs, tissue, organs, or death. Generally speaking, the incidence of these vascular lesions is high, especially in the middle-aged and elderly population.
