Paraseptal emphysema, also known as peri-alveolar emphysema, is a condition in which the respiratory fine bronchioles of the alveoli are essentially normal and the alveolar ducts and alveolar sacs located around them at the distal end are dilated. Emphysema is a chronic obstructive lung disease characterized by insidious onset and gradual progression, which is ultimately disabling and leads to permanent destruction of lung function. Since emphysema is caused by the destruction of the alveoli, it can be classified into central alveolar emphysema, total alveolar emphysema, and paraseptal emphysema (peri-alveolar emphysema) according to the location and extent of the lesion. Patients with emphysema are advised to seek prompt medical attention. Medical interventions for this disease include medication, oxygen therapy, rehabilitation training, and exercise exercises, etc., and specific treatment regimens should be prescribed by a physician.
