Hand, foot, and mouth disease is called hand, foot, and mouth disease, and there is no other name for the time being. However, the pathogens that cause HFMD are many viruses, and these viral species are capable of causing herpes pharyngitis in addition to HFMD. Clinically, herpes pharyngitis is actually similar to hand, foot, and mouth disease. In some patients with HFMD, the rash on the hands appears very rarely, and if these few rashes do not appear, the diagnosis is only herpes pharyngitis. So herpes pharyngitis and HFMD are actually continuous, the difference is only whether there is a rash on the skin outside the mouth, the rash is mainly on the palms of the hands, the feet and the buttocks. If herpes is present in these areas, it is HFMD, and without herpes, it can only be diagnosed as herpes pharyngitis. Since HFMD is also accompanied by fever and herpes in the pharynx, the two diseases are actually similar.
