What to do if your nipple cracks while breastfeeding

The following measures should be taken for cracked nipples during breastfeeding: First, breastfeeding should be started on the less painful breast to reduce the sucking force on the other breast and to keep the nipple and a part of the areola in the baby’s mouth in order to prevent the nipple skin cracking from worsening. Secondly, change the position of holding the baby when breastfeeding alternately, so as to spread the sucking force around the nipple and areola. Third, breastfeeding diligently, in order to facilitate the emptying of milk, so that the areola become soft. Fourth, squeeze out a small amount of milk after breastfeeding and apply it on the nipple and areola, briefly expose and dry the head near the window and irradiate the sunlight, also apply a thin layer of watery lanolin ester on the nipple. v. Wear loose clothing after breastfeeding. VI. If the nipple pain is severe or the breast is swollen, breastfeeding may be temporarily stopped, but the milk should be expressed.
