In my years as an obstetrician, I have seen a lot of parents-to-be who went straight to the hospital in the middle of the night without bringing anything in a panic when they were in labor. It’s true that the process of hospital admission is undoubtedly unfamiliar to healthy people who rarely deal with hospitals, and even thinking about it is troublesome, but in fact, it’s not that difficult as long as it’s sorted out. So, take the hospital where I work as an example, let’s understand the process of admission to the hospital for delivery in advance, so that we don’t panic when we are in labor is the basis of good emotion! 1: All kinds of documents and maternity data (must bring) 1, the original ID card, medical insurance card, these will be used for hospitalization procedures. 2, all the maternity data (especially for pregnant mothers who had maternity checkups in several hospitals), it is best to arrange and bind them in chronological order, which can quickly and effectively help doctors diagnose the situation of pregnant mothers and fetal babies. However, many places in the country are gradually realizing the electronic version of the mother and child handbook, which will greatly facilitate the doctor’s detailed understanding of the specific maternity and health status of the pregnant mother, without worrying about the problem of forgetting to bring or losing the paper data. 3.Bank card or cash is also essential because hospitalization requires prepayment of deposit. 2: Daily necessities needed for hospitalization 1. Various toiletries: shampoo, shower gel, toothbrush, mouthwash, towels, tissues, wet tissues, etc. 2. Tableware: lunch boxes, chopsticks, cups, spoons, straws with curved ends, etc. 3.Slippers, underwear and change of clothes at the time of discharge. 4.Maternal sanitary napkins and baby diapers and discharge clothes needed after delivery. But pregnant mothers who don’t like the trouble can also consider buying a maternity package directly, all in one go. Three: transportation to the hospital. For pregnant mothers who live near the hospital, walking is fine, and proper activity is more helpful for delivery. If you live far away or in the middle of the night, it is more convenient to drive, but parking may be a problem (nowadays, hospital beds and parking spaces are rather tight). A cab is a good choice, a drop, convenient and quick. Of course, there are also some pregnant mothers in emergency situations, who may be picked up by ambulance directly back to the hospital. 4: Pregnant mothers who intend to have a normal delivery After showing signs of labor such as redness, regular contractions and water breaking, report directly to the hospital’s obstetrics clinic during normal working hours during the day (from 8:00 to 17:00). In the evening (17:00 to 8:00), report to the maternity inpatient department. If the doctor confirms that the pregnant mother is eligible to give birth, she will be issued an inpatient order. The family goes to the billing office for the hospitalization procedure (from 8:00 to 17:00 during the day at the outpatient billing office and from 17:00 in the evening to 8:00 the next day at the emergency billing office). However, with the development of the Internet + medical care, hospitalization and discharge procedures in the ward are gradually being realized, which can greatly reduce the family’s travel back and forth and save time. V: Pregnant mothers who need a cesarean delivery A few weeks before the expected delivery date, the pregnant mother and the doctor will communicate and discuss the appropriate time to choose a cesarean delivery. Usually, the hospital admission order is issued 1-2 days before the chosen time of the procedure. As far as possible, pregnant mothers should choose the morning hours of the day for admission, so that pre-operative tests can be completed more quickly and beds are more easily available. All in all, nowadays, with convenient transportation and abundant supplies, it is not a problem if you have all the valid documents and maternity documents with you when you report to the hospital, and nothing else is missing. Do not blame each other or complain. It is more important for the family to be happy and to welcome the new member than anything else!
