What is meant by bilateral carotid plaque

Bilateral carotid plaque means atherosclerosis of both carotid vessels, which is common in hypertensive, diabetic and elderly patients, and as they age, patients with hypertension and diabetes are relatively more prone to atherosclerosis than normal people. If carotid plaque is present, patients are advised to take oral antiplatelet, lipid-lowering, and plaque stabilizing medications, such as oral BAY aspirin and atorvastatin. If patients do not currently have severe stenosis of the carotid vessels, they do not need to combine surgical treatment, but mainly choose to take oral medications for conservative treatment. In addition to oral medication conservative treatment, it is important to combine it with lifestyle interventions such as alcohol cessation, low salt and low fat diet, and regular work and rest to better prevent disease progression.
