Diagnostic criteria of diabetes in pregnant women and how to treat it

It is customary in China that most families or elders encourage pregnant women to overeat because they are concerned about the nutritional health of the fetus, without realizing that this often leads to obesity and overnutrition, which is detrimental to health, especially to the development of gestational diabetes. 2002 saw a large study HAPO with more than 20,000 volunteers, which showed that even mild elevation of blood sugar may lead to adverse pregnancy outcomes. Therefore, blood glucose control in pregnant women should be stricter than in the rest of the population to reduce the risk of adverse pregnancy outcomes. So what level of blood glucose is diagnosed as maternal diabetes? In December 2011, China proposed the diagnostic criteria for diabetes in pregnant women: 1. Fasting blood sugar greater than or equal to 5.1mmol/L; 2. Blood sugar greater than or equal to 10.0mmol/L one hour after taking 75g of glucose orally (dissolved in 250-300ml of pure water and finished within 5 minutes); 3. 3. Gestational diabetes mellitus can be diagnosed after 2 hours of taking 75 grams of glucose (dissolved in 250-300 ml of pure water and finished within 5 minutes) orally on an empty stomach, with blood sugar greater than or equal to 8.5 mmol/L. Note that fasting means no food or energy containing drinks within 8 hours. How is gestational diabetes treated? 1.Dietary control, through this method, most patients will have significant improvement in blood sugar and may not need medication. 2.If blood sugar cannot reach the standard by the above methods, human insulin or menthol insulin treatment can be considered.
