Gastric Mesenchymal Tumor Surgery is in Surgery and Gastroenterology.

Surgery for gastric mesenchymal tumors is usually performed in the Department of General Surgery or the Department of Gastrointestinal Surgery, or in the Department of Gastroenterology if gastroscopic treatment is performed. Gastric mesothelioma can be treated with both open surgery and laparoscopic surgery. Open surgery is relatively safe but can cause a lot of damage, while laparoscopic surgery is less damaging but more risky. Experienced surgeons can often use the laparoscopic technique, but if they are not experienced enough, open surgery is the mainstay. For different parts of the gastric mesenchymal tumor surgery, different surgical approaches are required. If the tumor is in the body or fundus of the stomach, partial gastrectomy can be taken. If the tumor is in the cardia or pylorus of the stomach, a major resection of the stomach is required. Nowadays, with some new techniques, if the patient’s tumor is smaller, it is a pyloric or cardia tumor, endoscopic ESD, i.e. mucosal dissection, can be performed, which is less damaging to the patient, and is usually performed by gastroenterology department.
