What is sertraline?

Sertraline is a selective pentraxin reuptake inhibitor, an antidepressant with indications including depressive disorder, panic disorder, post-traumatic stress disorder, social phobia, and obsessive-compulsive disorder. Sertraline is one of the few antidepressants available for use in children under 12 years of age, with onset of action occurring after 2-4 weeks of continuous dosing. Possible adverse reactions after taking sertraline are gastrointestinal adverse reactions, such as decreased appetite, nausea, dry mouth, constipation and diarrhea. There are also central nervous system side effects, such as sedation or insomnia, headache, and dizziness. There are also patients who may experience sexual dysfunction, especially in men such as difficulty in erection and delayed ejaculation.
