The effect of emotions on the stomach

The stomach is like a food processing plant, grinding and digesting the food that a person eats into a fine chyme, which is sent to the small intestine through the pylorus. During the processing of the stomach, there are physical actions of the stomach, such as peristalsis and grinding of the gastric body; there are also chemical actions of the stomach, such as digestion of food through gastric juices. After being sent to the small intestine, the food continues to be digested by pancreatic juice, bile, and duodenal fluid, and the small intestine absorbs most of its nutrients into the blood, while another part of the undigested food residue is sent to the large intestine. Some of this interacts with bacteria in the large intestine and becomes essential vitamins that are reabsorbed into the blood along with the remaining water and some electrolytes that are not absorbed after passing through the small intestine, while some of it becomes dregs that are excreted from the anus. Therefore, the digestive system is an important logistical department for processing food and supplying nutrition. The stomach, the most important part of this logistics department, it not only plays the role of the top and bottom, or an important part of the food into nutrition. People eat grains and cereals, the stomach through the esophagus, the mouth and the outside world, so it is very vulnerable to injury. Such as overeating, often eat cold, greasy, fatty, sweet, spicy products, cold and cold, etc., can make the stomach uncomfortable and negative idleness. There is also an important factor that is often overlooked, is the emotional abnormalities. The human digestive tract also exists a nervous system, we call it the “enteric nervous system”. This enteric nervous system, together with the central nervous system and the human digestive system, forms a neuroendocrine network system, also known as the “brain-gut axis”. If a person is in a bad mood, it will cause abnormal secretion of gastrointestinal hormones such as brain and intestinal peptides through the “brain-gut axis”, resulting in digestive dysfunction. Conversely, if people have problems with the digestive tract, it will also affect the central nervous system through the “brain-gut axis”, leading to emotional disorders. Therefore, adverse psychosocial factors can lead to stomach diseases through the human neuroendocrine network system, causing peptic ulcer, gastroesophageal reflux disease, functional dyspepsia, irritable bowel syndrome and other discomforts such as stomach pain, bloating, early hug, nausea, vomiting, acid reflux, heartburn, regurgitation, constipation, diarrhea and so on. If a person has the above symptoms, it means that there is something wrong with the digestive system or the psycho-neurological system and further repair is needed. Therefore, the above symptoms are also the “distress signal” of the stomach, which wants to draw people’s attention. Emotions cause stomach problems, and the most common one nowadays is functional dyspepsia, I’m afraid. Functional dyspepsia accounts for 20-40% of digestive tract diseases, and with the development of society and civilization, this disease is becoming more and more common, and almost all people have different degrees of dyspepsia in their long lives. So, what is functional dyspepsia? In fact, it is a functional disease called “functional dyspepsia” in which at least 3 months before the consultation, there are different degrees of post-meal discomfort in the upper abdomen, stomach pain, early satiety (uncomfortable fullness of the stomach after eating a little), burning sensation in the upper abdomen, etc., and relevant examinations such as gastroscopy, upper gastrointestinal tract imaging, ultrasound, etc. are done in the hospital, but no structural problems are found that can explain the above symptoms. Functional dyspepsia”. There is a consensus among many experts that functional dyspepsia is associated with adverse psychosocial factors. Therefore, some stubborn functional dyspepsia is often addressed by doctors with anti-anxiety depression. Emotions lead to stomach problems, which has been recognized by Chinese medicine for a long time. Chinese doctors often say that “all diseases are born in qi”, “liver and stomach disharmony”, “liver and spleen disharmony”, etc., which is roughly speaking that emotions cause diseases, especially stomach diseases. Why is that? According to Chinese medicine, the spleen is responsible for the transportation of water and grain, and the stomach is responsible for the acceptance of ripe water and grain, the spleen rises clear and the stomach descends turbid, jointly undertaking the digestion and absorption of food and the transfer and distribution of nutrients. The liver, which is the main organ of the body, is an important pivot for regulating the qi flow, helping the spleen to transport water and grain and to raise the clear, and supporting the stomach in its function of ripening water and grain and lowering. The liver also regulates emotions and keeps people in a good state of mind so that they do not develop diseases. The liver is the master of drainage and also excretes bile, which is used to facilitate the digestion and absorption of food. If emotions are abnormal, it will lead to liver qi stagnation, which will lead to liver qi transverse to the stomach or transverse to the spleen, resulting in spleen and stomach disharmony, spleen loss of health, stomach loss of circulation, poor bile secretion, digestive and absorption dysfunction, and therefore various manifestations of indigestion. Chinese medicine often says: “great anger hurts the liver”, “thinking hurts the qi”, “worrying hurts the spleen” and so on, that is to say, emotions cause disease. This kind of stomach disease caused by emotional abnormalities, the treatment should be the principle of dredging the liver and Qi, with the regulation of emotions, in the efficacy of the treatment can play a multiplier effect. For example, I have a patient who has been angry for a long time because of work and family problems. Over time, when angry, stomach pain, can not tolerate, it is really painful to the extreme. To the hospital examination gastroscopy, ultrasound, upper gastrointestinal imaging, thyroid hormones, biochemical and so on did not see abnormalities. I took a detailed history of her illness and then took her pulse. I felt that her pulse was as stringed as a bow, and she had a feeling of sword tension. I then considered that this person was suffering from liver qi stagnation, so I gave her the treatment of relieving liver stagnation, regulating qi and harmonizing the stomach, prescribing the soup of Chai Hu Daxing Liver San plus and minus formula for oral administration, and then coupled with psychological suggestion therapy to ease her emotions. After the patient’s condition improved, she was changed to Zhuangyao Pill to consolidate the treatment effect. Within a month, the person’s stomach pain was completely cured. There are many causes of functional dyspepsia, mainly related to the influence of emotional and psychological factors and irregular diet and life. To prevent the occurrence of this disease, the first thing is to maintain a good state of mind, optimistic emotions, calm and self-contained, unperturbed attitude to life. In the Yellow Emperor’s Classic of Internal Medicine, “Su Wen Shang Gu Tian Zhen Lun”, when talking about health maintenance, it is said that people should be “beautiful in their food and clothing, high and low without admiring each other” if they want to be healthy. It means that people should be content with the status quo and enjoy themselves. When you eat a light meal, it is like eating a mountain of food and seafood; when you wear cloth, it is like wearing silk and silk; when you see others in office, you are neither envious nor jealous, you are calm and unmoved. This is how you can live longer. Second, in order not to stomach disease, diet and life conditioning is also very important. Such as not overeating, do not eat cold, greasy, fatty, sweet and greasy products, do not smoke and drink, do not eat immediately after the meal strenuous activities, do not sit still, delaying the emptying of the stomach. Do not often stay up late, and do not eat immediately after the meal bed. Do not wear the belt too tight, do not eat too many sweets, frying and high-fat high-calorie diet should not eat too much, otherwise it is easy to cause reflux of food and gastric juice. If you have a stomach disease, it is advisable to have a comprehensive regimen. Usually eat light and easy to digest food, eat seven or eight minutes full at each meal. If you are hungry, you can add some light foods or fruits and other foods in between meals. It is very important to exercise and strengthen your body during the day. To maintain a normal weight, to prevent excessive pressure on the stomach, causing food reflux. You can also self-point massage to promote the health of the stomach. For example, the foot three li point is commonly used by people for spleen and stomach health points, you can often acupressure, massage, moxibustion. Stomach bloating and stomach pain accompanied by stomach fear of cold, mostly belong to the spleen and stomach cold, can be used moxibustion smoked belly button, 5-10 minutes a day. People who love anger, easy stomach pain may want to use a little rose flower infusion as a tea drink, can dredge the liver to relieve pain. Cold and cold caused by gastrointestinal dysfunction, you can use 3-5 slices of ginger soup, and then sprinkle a little pepper stirred and drink it with heat. In short, the stomach disease is the main prevention, treatment as a supplement. Send you a few words of wisdom: “three parts of treatment, seven parts of nourishment, prevention and care is more important; regulate the mood of a wide amount of gas, regular diet less greasy; Q spirit of Mile heart, self-deprecation no trouble; mutual humility for good, stomach disease does not find good spirit.” I wish you all a happy smile and a healthy spleen and stomach.
