Can adults get hand, foot and mouth disease?

HFMD is mostly seen in children under 5 years old, but adults can also get HFMD. Most of the time, HFMD is contracted from close contact with a child in the family who is caring for the child. The symptoms of HFMD in adults include red papules and herpes on the palms of hands and feet, mouth pain, mouth ulcers, and in some cases, fever, which usually heals in 7-10 days. A small number of adults with HFMD can develop into a serious disease, showing repeated fever, headache and vomiting symptoms, and need to go to the hospital for treatment in time.
