Sleep snoring is mainly a vibration caused by airflow through the pharyngeal cavity and impact on the mucous membrane of the soft palate. This symptom may be related to obesity, enlarged tonsils, and mandibular retraction deformity, etc. Depending on the cause and the degree of the condition, general treatment, surgical treatment, oral appliance treatment, and non-invasive positive pressure ventilation treatment are required. There is no fastest treatment that deals only with the symptoms but with all the causes.
1. Obesity: Fat accumulation in the neck and pharynx produces narrowing of the pharyngeal cavity and triggers snoring symptoms. Weight can be controlled through diet control, proper exercise and surgical treatment to reduce the resistance to breathing caused by airway collapse.
2. Tonsillar hypertrophy: excessive hypertrophy and hyperplasia of tonsils due to chronic inflammation or strong immune function, blocking the oropharynx, resulting in narrowing of the airway cross-section and triggering snoring symptoms. It is feasible to treat with uvulopalatopharyngoplasty to enlarge the pharyngeal cavity and improve ventilation.
3. Mandibular retraction deformity: due to congenital developmental abnormalities or adenoid hypertrophy and other diseases, resulting in adenoid facies and mandibular retraction deformity, prone to sleep snoring symptoms. Oral appliance treatment, non-invasive positive pressure ventilator treatment, or mandibular advancement treatment can be chosen to improve airway pressure and structure and relieve snoring symptoms.
There are other causes of sleep snoring, you need to actively seek medical treatment, systematic examination to clarify the diagnosis and cause of the disease, and then follow the doctor’s instructions to standardize the treatment.
