Does myocarditis cause hiccups?

Myocarditis is an acute or chronic inflammatory lesion of the myocardium that is limited or diffuse. Myocarditis itself does not affect symptoms related to the digestive system, such as hiccups. However, the most common cause of myocarditis is viral disease. Viral myocarditis often causes symptoms related to the respiratory, circulatory, and digestive systems, such as hiccups, so myocarditis such as viral myocarditis can cause hiccup symptoms. In patients with viral myocarditis, most have prodromal symptoms of viral infection such as fever, general lethargy, muscle aches, or digestive symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, and hiccups 1-3 weeks prior to the onset of the disease, many of which are not directly associated with cardiac discomfort and are, therefore, very easy to overlook.
