Postoperative rehabilitation program for patellar dislocation patellofemoral ligament reconstruction

1. On the day of surgery: After the anesthesia subsides, begin to move the toes and ankle joint. (1) Firm, slow, full-range flexion and extension of the ankle joint with ankle pumps. (2) Quadriceps isometric exercises – i.e. thigh muscle tensing and relaxation. This should be done as often as possible without increasing pain. (3) Apply ice packs for 24 hours after surgery. (4) Walk on the ground with the help of crutches 24 hours after surgery, but only to go to the toilet and other necessary activities. (2) Postoperative day 2: (1) Continue the above exercises. (2) Change the ankle pump to anti-gravity exercises. (3) Start straight leg raise – straight leg raise after knee extension to heel 40M from bed, hold for 5 sec. 30 times/set, 3-4 sets/day. (4) Weight-bearing can be done under the protection of the brace. 3.Postoperative days 3-7: (1) Continue and strengthen the above exercises. (2) Start gentle passive activities and functional exercises 48 hours after surgery to prevent joint adhesion. 4. 2-4 weeks after surgery: (1) Continue and strengthen the above exercises. Start the foot external rotation position straight leg raising exercise. The daily leg raising can be up to 1000 times. (2) Start to unlock the brace in the 2nd postoperative week and start to train a certain range of activities. (3) Flexion over 90 degrees is not allowed within 4 weeks. (4) Push the patella daily. Postoperative 5-8 weeks: (1) Continue and strengthen the above exercises. (2) Remove the brace fixation for 8 weeks. (3) Knee flexion should not exceed 120 degrees for 8 weeks after surgery.
