How to manage GERD with diet

  1. Avoid taking substances that increase stomach acid, such as coffee and spicy foods, and eat more foods that neutralize stomach acid, such as alkaline pasta. 2. For patients with esophageal strictures, forbid foods that cannot be tolerated. Depending on the severity, choose soft, semi-liquid or liquid foods and swallow them slowly, one bite at a time, or take soda soon after swallowing to facilitate the passage of food. 3. Avoid foods that reduce LES pressure: (1) Reduce the intake of fat, which can promote the release of cholecystokinin from the small intestinal mucosa and reduce LES pressure. (2) Chocolate contains a large amount of xanthine, which is a strong inhibitor of intracellular phosphodiesterase, which can increase the concentration of adenosine cyclic phosphate in the smooth muscle receptors of the LES, and reduce the pressure of the LES, so avoid eating. (3) Avoid alcohol and tobacco, because nicotine and alcohol can reduce the pressure of the LES at rest. One study reported that smoking 2 cigarettes in 20 minutes reduces LES pressure by 50%, and the use of 24-hour continuous monitoring of esophageal PH found that 1/3 of smokers can occur GER. Second, develop a scientific way of eating 1, eating time: three meals at regular intervals, 3 hours before bedtime should not be eaten. 2, diet: the distribution of the three meals should be reasonable, breakfast fine, lunch more, dinner should be less into, if you need a night meal, it should be a soft meal is appropriate, do not go to bed full.
