Can multiple lymph nodes in the ileocecal region be cancerous?

The presence of multiple lymph nodes in the ileocecal region is not necessarily a sign of cancer, which mainly includes the ascending colon as well as the cecum. If cancer is present, lymphatic metastasis is likely to occur, which is usually indicated by multiple enlarged lymph nodes on abdominal CT or ultrasound. However, in addition to malignant disease, i.e. colon cancer, multiple enlarged lymph nodes in the ileocecal region can also occur during acute inflammatory episodes in cases of ulcerative colitis and Crohn’s disease. In addition to this, if it is small intestinal lymphoma, enlarged lymph nodes can also appear. Therefore, multiple enlarged lymph nodes in the ileocecal region may not necessarily be cancer, and further colonoscopic pathological biopsy is needed to make a clear diagnosis.
