Tips refers to transjugular intrahepatic portal vein stent shunt, which is a new interventional radiology treatment for upper gastrointestinal bleeding in portal hypertension. The indications for tips are: portal hypertension with gastroesophageal variceal rupture bleeding; recurrent, variceal rupture bleeding, and by the internal medicine treatment is ineffective; portal hypertension of intractable ascites; liver transplantation before the overtreatment. The length of survival time after having tips surgery is very much related to the primary disease condition and needs to be considered according to the specific condition of the patient. 1. Longer survival time. The quality of life of some patients with cirrhosis will be greatly improved after tips surgery, and there will not be some serious complications, then the survival time is longer, the survival period can be as long as 3~5 years. 2. Short survival time. Another part of cirrhosis patients will have some serious complications after tips surgery, such as acute liver failure, hepatic encephalopathy, etc., all of which will have a great impact on the patient’s vital signs, and may cause the patient to die after a few days or weeks of survival.
