How many times a day is good for peritoneal dialysis

Peritoneal dialysis is a long term continuous ambulatory dialysis modality, generally patients are better off with four times a day, one bag for 4 hours during the day. One bag is infused at 6:00-7:00 am, stored in the abdomen for 4-6 hours, and then done again at night before bedtime to retain the abdomen and drain the next morning. However, there are individual differences in patients, and those with less elevated creatinine and better peritoneal function may have three bags per day. In addition, patients with decreased ultrafiltration and emptying at night during long retention abdomen can have three bags per day. If the patient has poor ultrafiltration or high creatinine, the patient can have five bags per day.
