Can Asthma Cause Heart Disease

Asthma can cause heart disease. Heart disease caused by asthma is called pulmonogenic heart disease, which is a heart disease characterized by right heart failure. Asthma is short for bronchial asthma, is a kind of airway chronic inflammation, chronic inflammation of the bronchial wall caused by chronic damage, thus causing increased airway resistance, airflow limitation, and chronic inflammation can be involved next to the small pulmonary arteries, caused by vasculitis, vascular wall thickening, narrowing of the lumen of the blood vessels and fibrosis, which can make the pulmonary vascular resistance increase to produce pulmonary arterial hypertension. The increase of pulmonary artery pressure can increase the load of the right ventricle, when the load exceeds the compensatory function of the right ventricle, pulmonary heart disease will occur, manifested as panic, palpitation, dyspnea, double lower extremity edema, jugular vein filling, hepatosplenomegaly and other symptoms of right heart failure, and in severe cases, pleural effusion and ascites can also occur. Therefore, bronchial asthma should be treated in time to avoid acute attacks and exacerbations, reduce the damage to lung function, and prevent complications of pulmonary heart disease.
