Xiao Trapped Chest Soup is from “The Treatise on Typhoid Fever”, composed of Rhizoma Coptidis, Psidium Guajava and Semixia, which has the effect of resolving phlegm and clearing heat, dispersing knots and relaxing the chest, can be used in the small knotted chest syndrome of phlegm-heat interconnections, which can be seen in plumping under the heart (mainly refers to the distension of the stomach and discomfort), pain when pressed, or coughing up phlegm of yellowish consistency, or heart and chest tightness, with a slippery pulse and yellowish greasy fur on the red tongue.
In this formula, Psidium guajava can facilitate the dispersal of qi and clear away heat and phlegm; Huanglian is bitter and cold, which can reduce fire and diarrhea; Semixia can lower the reversal of phlegm and open the junction to eliminate lumps. Although the whole formula is of three flavors, it is well-matched, and it can dissolve phlegm and clear away heat, and disperse knots and broaden the chest.
