Where is the urinary catheter inserted?

A catheter is inserted into the bladder to drain urine from the bladder outside the body. There are two main ways to insert a catheter into the bladder: transurethral insertion and cystostomy.
1. Transurethral catheterization: One of the ways of inserting a catheter into the bladder is to enter through the urethral orifice and insert it into the bladder through the urethra, which can be used for temporary catheterization of a shorter period of time.
2. Cystostomy: A hole is made in the abdomen to allow the catheter to enter the bladder through a small hole. This is called a cystostomy and is used for continuous catheterization for longer periods of time.
Patients should follow their doctor’s instructions as to which catheterization method is appropriate for them. If they feel uncomfortable, they should seek immediate medical attention and treatment under their doctor’s guidance.
