How to treat hydrocephalus

There is no such thing as how to treat hydrocephalus well, and the appropriate treatment should be chosen according to the patient’s condition. The treatment of hydrocephalus mainly includes surgery, medication and general treatment.
Hydrocephalus refers to the pathological state of excessive accumulation of cerebrospinal fluid in the ventricular system, which may be caused by the obstruction of cerebrospinal fluid circulation, excessive generation or obstruction of discharge. It is common in infants and the elderly, and it can be caused by a variety of diseases, such as neonatal infection, congenital stenosis of midbrain aqueduct, spinal bulge, or intraventricular tumors, and so on.
1. Surgery: Except for a few cases which can be relieved after diuresis and dehydration, most of the patients with hydrocephalus need to undergo surgery, and the commonly used surgical procedures include ventriculoperitoneal drainage, lumbar pool peritoneal drainage and so on.
2. Drug therapy: Infants and children with hydrocephalus can often use acetazolamide to inhibit cerebrospinal fluid production as prescribed by the doctor. Other drugs such as mannitol, furosemide, hydrochlorothiazide can promote the discharge of cerebrospinal fluid. Drugs need to be used under the guidance of a doctor.
3. General treatment: active treatment of the primary disease, such as resection of the tumor, is also important in the treatment of hydrocephalus. In addition, vitamin B12 and other medicines can be used as prescribed by the doctor for nutritional nerve treatment.
It is recommended that patients with hydrocephalus should go to regular hospitals as early as possible and be actively treated under the guidance of doctors to avoid delaying the condition.
