How to tell the difference between canker sores and thrush in little ones

Mouth ulcers and thrush in small children can be differentiated according to the etiology, clinical manifestations and treatment methods.
1. Etiology:
(1) oral ulcers: the etiology is not clear, it is a combination of infection, oral trauma, genetics, nutritional deficiency and other factors.
(2) thrush: commonly known as snow mouth disease, is Candida albicans infection of the oral mucosal surface.
2. Clinical manifestations:
(1) oral ulcers: round or oval, the ulcer surface is covered with a layer of yellowish pseudomembrane, and surrounded by a distinct red halo, occurring in the tongue, lips, soft palate and other parts.
(2) Thrush: the surface of oral mucosa is covered with white curd-like dots or small flakes, which can gradually increase in size and merge with each other, and are not easy to wipe away.
3. Treatment:
(1) Oral ulcers: self-limiting, generally do not require special treatment. However, it should be noted that, should maintain oral hygiene, and increase the amount of water, maintain the diet, serious cases, can follow the doctor’s instructions for external use of watermelon cream spray, open-throat sword spray (children’s) and other drugs.
(2) Thrush: can follow the doctor’s instructions to apply topical medicines such as phlebotomy, and maintain oral hygiene.
