Is heart valve detachment serious?

Usually, it is not possible for a heart valve to become dislodged. Heart valve detachment is often referred to clinically as heart valve prolapse. In some patients, this is due to congenital dysplasia or degenerative valve degeneration, which may be observed first. In other cases, the heart valve tendon ruptures due to disease of the heart itself, or due to other factors such as ischemic infection, resulting in valve prolapse. Valve prolapse means that the valve cannot close well, and regurgitation of the valve may occur, resulting in more serious manifestations. Patients with heart valve prolapse due to congenital factors generally have no symptoms of heart failure, or the clinical manifestations are not obvious, and can be dynamically observed with annual or semi-annual review. If the prolapse is due to normal degenerative shedding in the elderly or partial shedding due to ischemic disease, such as coronary artery disease or myocardial infarction, it can also be observed dynamically if the degree of shedding is mild. If the patient has mitral valve prolapse, moderate to severe level of mitral valve closure insufficiency can occur, and a portion of blood will flow from the left ventricle to the left atrium during heart contraction to form reverse blood flow, which can cause elevated left atrial pressure for a long time, affecting left heart function and leading to left heart insufficiency, which will then be transmitted to the right heart, and the patient can eventually develop total heart failure. It is also possible that the patient has a serious primary medical condition, such as acute massive myocardial infarction with mechanical complications of the heart, resulting in prolapse of the heart valves. Or infective endocarditis or vasculitis, which can easily involve the heart valves to induce valve prolapse. These conditions often lead to a dramatic deterioration of the condition, which is likely to result in cardiac insufficiency, myocardial infarction, or infective endocarditis, requiring urgent surgical intervention in cases of severe disease. Therefore, when heart valve prolapse occurs, prompt medical attention should be sought to clarify the valve prolapse, determine the severity, and then take appropriate measures to alleviate the symptoms.
