Indications for exercise therapy

Exercise therapy is a method to alleviate symptoms and improve motor function by performing whole-body or local exercises according to the characteristics of the injury or disease in order to achieve the therapeutic purpose. Exercise therapy is the main body of physical therapy and an important measure of rehabilitation treatment. Exercise therapy focuses on the movement of trunk and limbs, sensation, balance and other functional training, including joint loosening, stretching techniques, muscle strength training, gait training, neurodevelopmental therapy, motor relearning therapy, balance training, etc., as well as daily life training. The main indications include orthopedic diseases, such as post-fracture surgery, joint dislocation, post-joint replacement, cervical and lumbar spondylosis, ankylosing spondylitis, and post amputation. Neurological diseases include cerebrovascular disease, spinal cord injury, Parkinson’s disease, peripheral nerve injury, and so on. Exercise therapy is currently indicated for cardiac diseases, such as post coronary artery bypass grafting and post stenting, as well as obstructive emphysema, asthma, and diabetes.
