Can I bathe my baby with chicken pox?

There is no clinical evidence that bathing can affect the course of chickenpox or interfere with its healing.
Chickenpox is an infection that causes an itchy rash to form on the skin, caused by the varicella zoster virus. The virus can remain in the body for several years and later cause a painful rash called herpes zoster. Most normally healthy young children recover on their own.
There is no necessary link between viral infections and bathing; bathing neither causes nor worsens viral infections.
Treatment of chickenpox includes antihistamines to help with the symptomatic treatment of itching; fingernails should be clipped as short as possible to avoid scratching that can cause visible skin breaks and secondary bacterial infections; and acetaminophen is given to treat fever, especially in children. Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs of the non-aspirin type may also be given.
