People who need to have their gallbladder removed include some patients with gallbladder stones, some patients with acute cholecystitis, some patients with chronic cholecystitis, some patients with gallbladder polyps and all patients with adenomas of the gallbladder, and patients with gallbladder cancer, etc. Whether or not to remove the gallbladder has to be evaluated by the doctor.
1. Patients with partial gallbladder stones: Surgical removal of the gallbladder is preferred for gallbladder stones with symptoms and complications. If gallbladder stones are combined with the following conditions, surgical removal of the gallbladder should also be considered: large number of gallbladder stones with a diameter of ≥2-3cm; calcification of the gallbladder wall or ceramization of the gallbladder; combined with gallbladder polyps of ≥1cm; and thickening of the wall of the gallbladder (wall thickness of >3mm).
2. Some patients with acute cholecystitis: for calculous cholecystitis, surgical removal of the gallbladder if the onset of the disease is within 48-72h; ineffective by non-surgical treatment; complications such as gallbladder perforation, diffuse peritonitis, purulent cholangitis. For non-calculous cholecystitis, since the gallbladder is prone to gangrene and perforation, the gallbladder should be surgically removed as soon as the diagnosis is confirmed.
3. Patients with chronic cholecystitis: patients diagnosed with chronic cholecystitis should be operated immediately if they can tolerate surgery.
4. Partial gallbladder polyps and total gallbladder adenomas: Surgery should be performed to remove the gallbladder if the gallbladder polyps have the following conditions: the diameter of the polyp is more than 1cm; single lesion with a wide base; gradual enlargement of the polyp; and the combination of gallbladder stones and thickening of the wall of the gallbladder, etc., especially when the patient is more than 60 years old and the diameter of the polyp is more than 2cm. Once diagnosed, patients with gallbladder adenoma should have their gallbladder removed immediately.
5. Patients with gallbladder cancer: surgery is the main treatment mode, including simple cholecystectomy, radical resection of gallbladder cancer.
Patients with biliary tract diseases should go to regular hospitals to avoid delay.
